SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some people hit the great outdoors, to do a little spring cleaning in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Volunteers armed with garbage bags and trash pickers headed out despite the weather for the fourth annual Pine Brook neighborhood community cleanup.

Volunteers from Scranton United Neighborhood Centers of NEPA hosted the event.

They got some help from the Leadership Lackawanna, Lackawanna River Corridor Association, and Lackawanna Heritage Valley to help clean up trash.

Pine Brook residents also pitched in.

“Driving down the street, walking down the street, it should be clean you know. I just picked up three bags of garbage and I feel pretty gratified after that. this looks a lot nicer,” said Brandon Wilson from Throop.

Saturday’s event was part of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup and the Pine Brook Community Revitalization Project.
