LUZERNE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Improvements were made to Toby Creek after mine subsidence issues started last Sunday.

According to the DEP, a cofferdam was installed on Sunday into the creek to stop the flow of water into the subsidence. These are often used to prevent the flow of water into an area that needs to be dried out.

DEP Spokesperson Colleen Connolly stated that eighty cubic yards of concrete was also pumped into the subsidence today which was topped with more clay and rocks which allows the flow of water to increase.

Officials expect the settling of the installed materials to continue, and will monitor the situation over the next couple of days.
