MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — All U.S. House Districts, including the 8th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, are holding elections for this year’s primary.

There’s only one candidate from each party to vote for in the 8th District of Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman Matt Cartwright and Republican candidate Robert Bresnahan.

Both candidates cast their votes in person in NEPA Bresnahan cast his vote early Tuesday morning in Dallas at the Municipal Township Building and Cartwright cast his Tuesday morning in Moosic at the Greenwood Fire & Rescue Station.

Both of these candidates are running unopposed in this year’s primaries, leaving the final decision to be made in the general election in November on who gets the congressional seat for Pennsylvania’s 8th District if Bresnahan is elected, a main topic he wants to focus on is infrastructure in NEPA.

If Cartwright is re-elected, the first thing on his list is to continue to focus on bringing the rail system back to the area.

Right now we’re on schedule for 2028 to have three round trips a day going to New York City, we haven’t had that in 50 years, for 100 years this area had a passenger rail connection to greater Metropolitan New York City and it brought so many businesses and brought money to the area, and we weren’t at each other throats over whos paying what homeowners tax, because there was money in the area, that’s what we’re after and it’s coming back, that’s job number one to make sure that project is on track,” Congressman Matt Cartwright 8th District.

Congressman Matt Cartwright 8th District

Infrastructure is super important to me, and it’s not just your traditional roads and bridges, you have your drinking water, your wastewater treatment, you have your energy grids for power, distribution, I mean these systems were built in the 1950s with 50 years of usable life, we have to reinvest into northeastern Pennsylvania and we have to reinvest in our county, billions of dollars are being sent to every other place on the planet but right here in northeastern Pennsylvania so that’s what I’m about, America first, I’m about northeastern Pennsylvania and it’s about providing for our own people right here in this county.”

Although both Cartwright and Bresnahan will go head-to-head again in November, the votes from this primary election will give them, and the people of NEPA, a better look at which candidate is in favor of winning the congress seat in the general election.
