WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It will be a weekend of cool jazz in the City of Wilkes-Barre.

Friday night is the opening night for the ‘Cavalcade of Jazz.’

The event opened at the FM Kirby Center with music by the Joe Michaels trio. Many people are already in the area for Friday night’s events which include a downtown jazz walk.

“One of the most coolest things about this festival, is we’re actually doing a downtown jazz walk. So when you’re going through the streets of downtown Wilke Barre, a lot of restaurants are having performances within their restaurants which is the coolest thing,” said Shelby Monk a marketing & events coordinator for Diamond City Partnership.

Events continue on Saturday and Sunday.

Organizers say it looks like the cavalcade of jazz is here to stay. By the way, the very first jazz festival took place in downtown Wilkes-Barre in 1951.
