SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some car owners in northeastern Pennsylvania found a solution on what to do with their license plates showing too much wear and tear.

They showed up today at the Keyser Oak Shopping Center in Scranton for the 2nd Annual Peeling Plate Rally.

The initiative aims to make it easier for residents of Scranton and surrounding areas to replace their peeling license plates.

State police were on hand to inspect and certify the plates, and qualified participants could get a new license plate at no cost.

“My license plate has been wearing away for a while now and you can get fined if you don’t have it replaced so an event like this helps people out, especially those who can’t afford to pay for a replacement plate,” said Tom Miller.

“It helps, it helps the police to identify plate numbers visibly. it keeps our motorists safe on the roadways when they’re able to get replaced plates,” added Joseph Grasso President of Northeast Title & Tag.

Northeast Title and Tag, and Senator Marty Flynn’s office teamed up for Saturday’s Peeling Plate Rally in Lackawanna County.
