ASHLEY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The cleanup process is underway after a fire in Luzerne County.

Flames broke out above the American Legion Club in Ashley Wednesday, causing extensive water damage to the establishment.

On Thursday, some members of the club gathered to assess the damage and figure out a game plan.

They’re trying to gather the $1,000 deductible for the insurance, then they will start the clean-up and repairs.

“All the coolers are down, so all that merchandise is gonna be destroyed and the basement is where all the stock is cool and in walking coolers, they’re down we have a big loss here,” said Thomas McGovern, manager of the American Legion in Ashley.

This American Legion is responsible for organizing Ashley’s Memorial Day parade and it won’t be affected by the fire.

The legion hopes to have the club back open by Memorial Day.
