DANVILLE — Though January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, The Women's Center waited for the temperature to rise to host an awareness event in Montour County.

At 10:30 a.m. on April 10, the center will distribute packets of red sand to be poured into the cracks of the sidewalk outside of the Montour County Courthouse.

Education & Prevention Coordinator Elizabeth Hazzard said the sand will be a visual representation of people who have fallen through the cracks.

Hazzard said The Women's Center hopes people will realize trafficking is something to look out for and that there are resources to count on.

According to data provided by the center, 50 million people worldwide are being trafficked or living in modern slavery.

The public is welcome to stop by the courthouse on April 10 to participate in the event.
