LAUREL RUN BOROUGH, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) — A cement truck and another vehicle were involved in an accident State Route 2007, East Northampton Street, also known as Giant's Despair Road, in Lauren Run Borough.
Police say the cement truck was traveling downhill when it overturned and crashed into a pickup truck. PennDOT closed Giant's Despair for about seven hours. Officials say it's possible the cement truck should not have been traveling there in the first place because of weight restrictions.
"There are six signs posted from 115 all the way down Laurel Run Road, and there is a sign at the top saying it's restricted. Nothing over 10 tons coming down the hill. I don't know if they don't see the signs or just ignore them, but it's becoming more and more common," Laurel Run Fire Department Deputy Chief Jolene Tavalione said.
It's unknown if the truck was over the restricted weight limit. The road was opened shortly after 5 p.m. Monday night.
