Pike County guard sentenced for bringing drugs into jail

MILFORD, PIKE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A former Pike County jail guard has been sentenced after bringing drugs into the correctional facility.

In December of 2023, 28/22 News reported that 40-year-old Michael T. Spensieri from Blooming Grove Township was arrested after being accused of a scheme to bring drugs into the prison.

According to the press release, Spensieri brought a controlled substance, buprenorphine commonly known as suboxone, to the Pike County Correctional Facility.

Officials say after they received a tip Spensieri was willing to bring drugs into the jail to an inmate they set up a sting operation to catch Spensieri.

During the investigation, officials say found a hidden compartment located behind the entertainment screen of the car containing $500 and a plastic bag of drugs.

Spensieri was sentenced to 42 months up to 132 months in state prison along with a $3,000 fine.
