Bakery Delite prepping nonstop for holiday season

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's the most wonderful, but also the busiest time of year for area bakeries with Thanksgiving next week.

Slicing and weighing the perfect dough amount is routine before the sun comes up at Bakery Delite in Plains Township.

"Everything gets turned on at three in the morning, proof boxes, ovens, and then we’re baking all morning long. It could go into the afternoon, especially around the holidays," said Annette Kosmach, manager of Bakery Delite.

It’s the calm before the storm for Thanksgiving next week, but the preparations have been going on for months.

"Grinding poppy seeds and cooking poppy butter, making nut paste and nut fillings for all the rolls and everything that we have to do," said George Blom, co-owner of Bakery Delite.

Baking staples such as apple and pumpkin pies by the thousands, it’s an all-hands-on-deck situation for anyone in the kitchen, making everything you can think of for the holiday season.

‘Heating Up Hope’ campaign accepting applications

'Fall-themed cookies we do turkeys and acorns and little pumpkins, all different types. This is a little turkey," Kosmach continued, "I make this cookie dough, it’s about one hundred pounds of dough, and we go through it weekly."

The ovens heat the shop in the colder months as they score and throw in tons of homemade loaves.

"If you’re a home baker, you’ll realize what’s involved in making everything from scratch because everything’s made here. Our fillings, our pie doughs, everything’s made from scratch so it does take time," said Blom.

As Turkey Day kicks off bakeries busiest season running through the new year.

"We’ll be through the holidays in no time and then we have a little bit of time to relax after that," said Blom.

Bakery Delite is still accepting all orders for Thanksgiving through Monday, November 25.
