PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A 70-year-old Luzerne County man was struck by a vehicle and left for dead as he rode his bicycle along a busy highway. He says he wants justice.
Plains Township Police are still investigating the hit and run, but say there is nothing new to report. Ron Skiro was struck down near the intersection of Route 315 and Jumper Road. He believes it's a miracle he's alive.
"All I know is lights out, I'm in Geisinger trauma center, that's all I remember," recalled Skiro.
Skiro, 70, says he counts every day as a blessing after he was hit as he rode his electric bike near the intersection of Route 315 and Jumper Road. It happened around 9:00 p.m. on the night of August 16, Skiro was heading home when he was hit.
"Well, whoever you are he or she, whoever hit me, if you know you hit me. If you didn't know you hit me that's a different story. If you did know you hit me you should have done the right thing, rendered assistance, and be responsible instead of driving off and leaving me there," stated Skiro.
70-year-old left for dead after hit and run
Skiro suffered head injuries, and numerous lacerations and bruises. He is thankful that someone saw him along the road and called 911.
"If that person whoever she or he is, if that person didn't make the call, who knows maybe I wouldn't be here right now," expressed Skiro.
Butchie Lispi runs an auto repair shop along Route 315. He says this highway is always fast, furious, and dangerous at all hours, especially at night.
"Maybe the person that hit him didn't realize... it was dark at the time? Did he think he ran over something on the road and he didn't see him, you know that's possible too," explained Lispi.
Plains Township police tell the I-Team they are still investigating and want to hear from anybody who might have information.
