Bear Creek hit hard by Friday snowstorm

BEAR CREEK, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The snowstorm hit the Bear Creek area of Luzerne County very hard. As much as 15 inches fell in the area.

Hundreds of people are without power. We saw residents filling gas containers for their generators.

I-84, I-380 north closed, restrictions applied through several counties

The elevation is the x-factor Bear Creek Township is just over 1900 feet above sea level and that usually translates into more snow accumulation than most communities across northeastern and central Pennsylvania. People here know snow all too well.

Winter storm causes power outages across northeastern Pennsylvania

"No, we're used to it. Bear Creek is used to it. Winter comes early. We have no internet no cable not able to work from home and we're just having a time trying to dig out right now," said Renee Shrader.

Power for as many as 500 residents may not be restored until Saturday night.

Road crews are also working to keep traffic moving on Route 115 and the Northeast Extension of the PA Turnpike.
