Valley residents asked to fill out transportation survey

LEWISBURG — Officials at SEDA-Council of Governments in Lewisburg are asking residents to take a survey about transportation improvement needs in the community.The 2050 Long-Range Transportation plan examines future transportation needs over a 25-year planning horizon for the SEDA-COG Metropolitan Planning Organization region.

Lackawanna County taxpayers weigh in as property tax hike looms

LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A property tax hike looms in Lackawanna County. As leadership continues to disagree on how to move forward, the taxpayers weigh in.

County residents expressed Wednesday they want to see the commissioners working together, all three, the majority, and minority parties.

Meanwhile, the county faces some serious financial problems as we near the end of the year.

"Commissioner Chermak was asleep at the wheel, so were the other commissioners that's the honest to God truth," said Lackawanna County Commissioner Bill Gaughan.

Missing teen in Scranton found

Update: According to the Scranton Police Department, Cordaro has been located.

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Wednesday, Scranton Police said they are searching for a missing person in Lackawanna County.

On August 27, police say they were called to the 800 block of Harrison Avenue in Scranton for a reported missing person.

Mosquito spraying scheduled in parts of Wyoming Valley

Police are searching for 19-year-old Sean Cordaro who is described as weighing about 240 pounds and standing at about 5' 9" and was last seen on August 27.

Police look to ID females in sleight-of-hand trick theft

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they are looking to identify two females after they did a "sleight of hand" trick at Weis Market in Stroudsburg.

According to the Stroud Area Regional Police Department on August 28 they were dispatched to Weis Market on Ninth Street in Stroudsburg for an incident that occurred on August 15 at 5:33 p.m.

Police say the women pictured below were able to steal $140 in $20 bills.

Man accused of having unlawful contact with minor

SHAMOKIN, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are charging a man after they say he had unlawful contact with an underage girl.

According to the Shamokin Police Department, 53-year-old George Sitar is being accused of touching the girl between April and August of 2024.

Pittston Twp. shooting suspect pleads guilty to charges

The victim told police that Sitar would allegedly have the victim sleep in his bed, and touch her multiple times, even when she told him to stop. Sitar also told the victim to not tell anyone about the incidents, police stated.

Community fed up with trash on Carey Avenue Bridge

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A well-known Luzerne County bridge is the focus of lots of questions and complaints from residents and it all has to do with trash.

The Carey Avenue Bridge links the Hanover township-Wilkes-Barre area to the west side of the Wyoming Valley at Larksville. People reached out to the I-team asking for us to look into the situation.

Pittston Twp. shooting suspect pleads guilty to charges

PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man who was charged with shooting a woman in the back two times at a Luzerne County shopping plaza in 2022 has pleaded guilty.

Christopher Carmona from Manhattan, New York, pled guilty Wednesday to criminal attempt-criminal homicide, for his admitted role in a 2022 shooting in Pittston Township.

On June 2, 2022, state police responded to the area of Envy Nails salon in Pittston Township around 4:00 p.m. for reports of a woman who had been shot.
