Checking your vehicle ahead of Labor Day travel

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), this summer season has been record-breaking for travel and is estimated to continue this upcoming Labor Day weekend.

28/22 News stopped by one auto shop in Luzerne County for tips on how to make sure your vehicle is ready to hit the road this weekend.

Labor Day is just around the corner and millions of Americans are preparing to travel for the holiday.

Road restrictions set for La Festa Italiana

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — La Festa Italiana is returning to Lackawanna County. Officials have begun setting up road closures in downtown Scranton.

Officials say the banners have been hung and the tents are being set up around the courthouse square.

As of August 27 at 3:00 p.m., no parking restrictions are in place on Biden Street, Linden Street, Adams Avenue, and North Washinton Avenue.

Expect the lane closure around the square to be down to one lane, officials note.

PD: Child locked out of house, mom allegedly passed out from drugs

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are charging a mother after they say her child was locked out of the house while she was passed out from illegal drugs.

According to the Hazleton City Police Department, on August 25 around 3:00 a.m., officers were called to West Elm Street and Poplar Street for a report of a child locked out of their home.

Once on the scene, officers learned the 7-year-old child was sleeping in their mother's car and was ready to go inside but the house was locked. Officers knocked multiple times on the front door but received no response.

16-year-old reported missing in Scranton

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are searching for a 16-year-old girl who has been missing in Scranton for nearly two weeks.

According to the Scranton Police Department, 16-year-old Tymani Kendricks was reported missing on August 16.

Man hospitalized after stabbing in Glen Lyon

Police say Kendricks may frequent the area of Oak Street in Scranton. She is described as 5'5'', 110 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

Five charged with retail theft ring across Pennsylvania

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — The attorney general has announced five people have been charged for an organized retail theft operation that targeted stores across nine counties in Pennsylvania.

Attorney General Michelle Henry says five people targeted retail stores across nine counties spanning southeastern and southcentral Pennsylvania for over the course of three months.

Investigators state between February 28 and May 30, the group stole over-the-counter medications and other health and beauty products from Giant, Weis Markets, and Wegmans.
