Crews battle garage fire in Greenfield Township

GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Local fire crews in our area were busy fighting a fire in Lackawanna County which destroyed a garage in Greenfield Township.

28/22 News can confirm multiple crews were called to the scene of a garage on fire just before 1:00 p.m. Monday.

Coroner called after pedestrian struck by train in Kidder Township

Officials tell us no one was injured and the fire was put out quickly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Police removes 22 animals from Coaldale home

COALDALE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police removed nearly two dozen animals from a home after being tipped off on a potential animal cruelty situation.

No charges have been made at this hour for the property owner of the Coaldale home, but 22 animals were taken from the home and put in the care of the SPCA after being found in very poor conditions.

Photos provided by the Coaldale Police Department of the animals may be disturbing to some viewers at home.

"It's unbelievable. 17 dogs in one house is crazy," said Lou Galasso of Coaldale.

Weekend of art comes to an end in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The weekend of celebrating art in the Diamond City has come to an end.

On Monday, dozens on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre to clean up after the 68th Annual Fine Arts Fiesta.

Over 8,000 flags planted to honor fallen veterans

Crews were hard at work picking up trash, taking down tents, and removing the dozens of tables and chairs that were on the square for the event

The fine arts fiesta celebrates all things art with live entertainment, food, and crafts for all to enjoy.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Saturday morning, over 8,000 flags were planted at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

The flags were placed on the graves of our fallen veterans.

AMVETS Post 59 put the flags out ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

Governor Shapiro pays visit to Poconos in RV tour

AMVETS Post 59 has the largest number of veterans buried at the cemetery in Luzerne County.

The organization got help from several local high school and bike club volunteers.

The flag planting is done each May.
