A new Treasury inspector general report raises concerns about Immigration and Customs Enforcement's ability to safeguard taxpayer information. ICE and the IRS agreed in 2025 to share taxpayer data for immigration investigations. The report documents security concerns surrounding this arrangement, which has faced lawsuits and controversy. ICE requested address information on over 1.2 million people. The IRS provided addresses for about 47,000. The IRS’s automated matching process was flawed, leading to questionable matches. In February, a federal judge found the IRS unlawfully disclosed taxpayer information to ICE. No recommendations were made in the report, but concerns will be shared with the DHS Office of Inspector General.
