WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Congress is just hours away from a potential government shutdown.
The Senate has until midnight to pass a spending bill that funds federal agencies through September.
Thursday night, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said he would vote for the bill despite his objections to it.
This could open the door for some of his colleagues to potentially do the same.
Virginia Democratic Senator Mark Warner says Democrats are in a tough spot. At least eight of them would need to vote for the CR to pass but Warner says he's concerned it gives too much control over spending to the president.
"A power grab by the executive to try to get, to basically cut Congress out,” said Warner.
Schumer says he will vote for the bill anyway.
"While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse,” said Schumer.
Republicans pin a possible shutdown on Democrats.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune says Democrats not passing annual appropriations bills when they were in control put Congress in this position.
"The continuing resolution we have before us is the best option we have to fund the government for the balance of this year,” said Thune.
So far, just one other Democrat, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, said he will vote for the bill.
