(WBRE/WYOU) — The Department of Justice says they have charged a former Assistant Director of Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries after images were discovered that appeared to have been taken from a hidden camera viewing showers at the facility.

According to Acting United States Attorney John Gurganus, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ministries received a report from a woman who claimed she was “groomed” into a sexual relationship with 51-year-old Daniel Reed, when she was between 14 and 17 years old.

Through further investigation into Reed, detectives say they found a "peephole" and a two-way mirror in the second-floor hallway closet of the Youth Ministries, which looked into the second-floor bathroom shower.

A search warrant was executed at Reed’s residence, and law enforcement stated that on a device, internet searches related to the use of hidden cameras for illicit purposes were discovered.

Authorities said it also included a text to a group with two 16-year-olds, appearing to encourage them to use the shower at the facility.

On a hard drive, investigators say they found at least seven nude images of minors from the second-floor bathroom at the Youth Ministries’ facility, and pictures of others in other bathrooms and bedrooms.

All the images appeared to have been taken from a hidden camera, as stated in the release.

Reed has been charged with attempted production of child pornography, production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

The maximum penalty is 70 years, a term of supervised release following prison, a fine, and the imposition of a special assessment.

The DOJ is also asking any potential victims or anyone with information to call (814) 234-0341.
