Weekend of art comes to an end in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The weekend of celebrating art in the Diamond City has come to an end.

On Monday, dozens on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre to clean up after the 68th Annual Fine Arts Fiesta.

Over 8,000 flags planted to honor fallen veterans

Crews were hard at work picking up trash, taking down tents, and removing the dozens of tables and chairs that were on the square for the event

The fine arts fiesta celebrates all things art with live entertainment, food, and crafts for all to enjoy.

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Saturday morning, over 8,000 flags were planted at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

The flags were placed on the graves of our fallen veterans.

AMVETS Post 59 put the flags out ahead of Memorial Day weekend.

AMVETS Post 59 has the largest number of veterans buried at the cemetery in Luzerne County.

The organization got help from several local high school and bike club volunteers.

The flag planting is done each May.

The governor made his way to the brewery in his RV. He started off with a walk through the restaurant indoors.

He made a stop at PNC Field ahead of his week-long RV tour with his family across the commonwealth.

Tourism generates almost $80,000,000 in Pennsylvania while supporting nearly 500,000 jobs.

The annual race of the Saints takes place this Saturday on Memorial Day weekend. Jessup will soon be flooded with people decked out in yellow, black, and blue all for the annual race of the saints.

"The more simplistic understanding of why this festival happens in honor of our patron saint who saved the city of Gubbio from an invasion by Frederick Barbarossa," stated Michael Cappellini, executive vice president of Saint Ubaldo Society.

Coroner called after pedestrian struck by train in Kidder Township

KIDDER TOWNSHIP, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials say the coroner called after a woman was struck and killed by a train in Carbon County.

Authorities confirmed with 28/22 News the crash happened just before 5:00 p.m., at the intersection of Route 534 and Tannery Road.

Officials say the Carbon County Coroner was called to the scene and the railroad police are investigating the incident.
