Water issues continue to impact Stroud Twp. community

STROUD TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A quiet community in the Poconos facing a big water problem.

On Friday, residents in Blue Mountain Lake got an alert from Pennsylvania American Water (PAW) about a test finding high levels of manganese in part of their water supply.

A water tanker is for residents to get clean water while PAW sorts out the manganese problem. According to PAW, manganese is natural and essential at low doses, but chronic high exposure could be harmful.

Hughesville student makes computer program to help teachers, students

HUGHESVILLE, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A 14-year-old from Lycoming County loves computer coding. He's so good at it that he created a program to help his teachers and fellow students.

Dominic Dimoff loves computer coding, and he is very good at it.

"I was always good with technology, so I saw this opportunity in seventh grade with FBLA, and I started out with the website development," Dominic said.

Search for wanted Gerrity's retail theft suspect

WYOMING BORO., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police are looking for a suspect who they say committed retail theft at Gerrity's.

The Wyoming Area Regional Police Department is looking to identify the suspect pictured who was allegedly involved in a retail theft at Gerrity’s around 2:15 p.m. on May 17th.

Three wanted for multiple alleged retail thefts in Luzerne County

Police say the suspect stole $311 worth of items without paying.

Police investigate shots fired in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police announced they are investigating a shots fired incident in Wilkes-Barre over the weekend.

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, on May 18 around 8:56 p.m., officers were called to Dana and Grove Street for a report of several gunshots being fired.

Victim identified in deadly Dallas Township crash

Once on the scene, police said they found several spent shell casings near a house on Dana Street.

Officers noted no one was injured and the investigation is ongoing.

Balance of power could be at stake in 8th Congressional District race

28/22 NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — A congressional race here in NEPA could control the balance of power in Washington come November and the region is getting a lot of attention from party leaders.

So much so that the speaker of the house, Mike Johnson, was in Luzerne County Monday.

Speaker Johnson attended a fundraiser for Republican Candidate Rob Bresnahan.

He is trying to unseat incumbent Democrat Matt Cartwright for the eighth congressional seat.

Victim identified in deadly Dallas Township crash

DALLAS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY(WBRE/WYOU) — The Luzerne County Coroner has identified the victim in a deadly crash that occurred over the weekend on Route 309.

Coroner Jill Matthews states that on May 18 crews were called to Route 309 of Old Highway Road in Dalls Township for a two-vehicle crash.

Two-vehicle crash sends one to hospital

Matthews reports the driver of one of the cars involved, Mark Coulter, 61, was pronounced dead on the scene.

91 arrested for DUI in Luzerne County

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State troopers say they arrested 91 drunk drivers during a weekend DUI enforcement in Luzerne County.

Pennsylvania State Police stated troopers and municipal police officers conducted 1,026 stops that included 91 arrests for intoxicated drivers and 33 arrests for possession of a controlled substance.
