Thousands of Valley students attend nonpublic schools

More than 2,700 students in the area did not return to public schools in the districts where they live at the end of summer break, opting instead to attend a growing number of outside cyber schools, parochial schools, other private schools, special programs or home schools, according to data provided by local school districts.
