Man dead after house fire in Wayne County

HONESDALE BOROUGH, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been reported dead after a fatal fire in Wayne County.

According to the Wayne County Coroner officials were dispatched to a house fire on Erie Street in Honesdale Borough after a passerby called 911 just before 11:00 p.m. on December 23.

Fire rips through building in Luzerne County

The release states that 74-year-old William T. Doherty lived alone in the house and was pronounced dead inside the fire and smoke-damaged home by Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell.

Fire damages Wilkes-Barre home Christmas Eve morning

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Crews responded to a fire on Northampton St. early Christmas Eve morning.

Calls came in around 4:00 a.m. for a fire in Wilkes-Barre. Crews rescued one male victim from the second floor.

Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Delaney said the victim appears to be stable, but sustained smoke inhalation damage and was taken to the hospital.

Two tractor-trailer crashes close parts of I-80 and I-81

Chief Delaney said the home was not a total loss but has fire damage to the second floor and smoke and water damage to the first floor.

I-80 and I-81 reopened after two tractor-trailer crashes

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT announced that two separate tractor-trailer crashes closed parts of Interstate 80 Eastbound in Nescopeck and Interstate 81 Southbound in Scranton. Both roads have been reopened.

I-80 Eastbound at mile marker 248 in Nescopeck was closed and has been reopened.

Fire rips through building in Luzerne County

I-81 Southbound was closed at mile marker 184 in Scranton and has been reopened. PennDOT says to expect residual delays.

PennDOT reduced speed limits for Christmas Eve snow

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — PennDOT announced speed limit and lane restrictions early Christmas Eve morning due to the winter weather conditions. These restrictions have been lifted and are no longer in effect.

The following roads had their speed limit reduced to 45 mph and commercial vehicles restricted to the right lane only:

Interstate 80 in Luzerne County.

Interstate 81 from Schuylkill County to the New York state line in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Susquehanna Counties.

Interstate 84 in Lackawanna, Pike, and Wayne Counties.
