LEWISBURG — Two projects in Union County were approved for a combined $530,000 at the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) meeting in Harrisburg on Tuesday.Lewisburg Area School District’s Donald H. Eichhorn Middle School was awarded $500,000 for a roof replacement through the authority’s Public School Facility Improvement Grant (PSFIG) Program. Buffalo Township Municipal Sewer Authority was awarded $30,000 through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program, according to a press release from state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-23.The roof on the 60-year-old single Lewisburg school building is reaching the end of its service life and is leaking.“It is critical that we support efforts to improve aging infrastructure in many of our local schools, some of which haven’t seen significant upgrades in decades,” Yaw said. “The funding approved today will be incredibly impactful for the school.”Funding will be used for the purchase of a pickup truck for the authority that will transport personnel, haul equipment, make deliveries, plow snow and perform other necessary maintenance. The new truck will replace the township’s 1994 pickup.“The funding approved today is a valuable investment that will help Buffalo Township make much-needed upgrades to their maintenance equipment,” Yaw said. “I’m proud to have worked to secure this important funding.”— THE DAILY ITEM
