Lewisburg Neighborhoods will host ...

LEWISBURG — Lewisburg Neighborhoods will host a Sweet 16 community picnic on May 28.The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Soldiers Park in downtown Lewisburg. It celebrates the nonprofit organization created in May 2009.They will serve tamales (vegetarian option available) from Tomahawks Tacos, apples and cider from Dries Orchards, and cake from Weis Markets free for the public on a first come, first serve basis. In addition to providing food and lawn games, a "Third Space" activity will be held to encourage neighbors to identify spaces in town they go to spend time outside home or work. The goal of this is to help people see who else frequents their favorite neighborhood places to make connections or inspire someone to venture somewhere new in town, according to Lewisburg Neighborhoods. The organization encourages all to attend and to bring picnic blankets, chairs, lawn games, and a friend — all are welcome.Formed in 2006 to tackle frequent flooding and blight in the Bull Run Neighborhood, Lewisburg Neighborhoods has brought in more than $4 million in grant funding for projects like the Bull Run Greenway and the streetscape projects on S. 5th and 7th streets.— JUSTIN STRAWSER
