LEWISBURG — The Republican candidate for the 4th Ward seat on the Lewisburg Borough Council withdrew from the election, according to Union County Election Director Laura Seward.Rudy Mummey secured the Republican nomination in the primary election in May, but withdrew his name from the ballot in the General Election on Nov. 4. Incumbent Philip Stamm is the Democratic nominee for the position with no competition.Aug. 11 was the deadline to withdraw. The chair of the Union County Republican Party was notified about the opportunity to appoint a candidate in Mummey's stead, but did not do so, Seward said.Incumbent Bina Bilenky Trahan, of 1st Ward, newcomer Erin Karahuta, of 2nd Ward, and incumbent David Heayn, of 3rd Ward, are also on the ballot for three open seats on the Democratic ticket.Incumbent Kendy Alvarez, a Democrat, is the lone mayoral candidate on the ballot.Each elected position is for four years.— JUSTIN STRAWSER
