EAST BUFFALO TWP. — Two communities in Union County received a combined $735,000 in state funding toward transportation and sewer projects through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.East Buffalo Township was awarded $410,000 through the Multimodal Transportation Fund program for improvements to West Market Street. Mifflinburg Borough was awarded $325,000 by the Small Water and Sewer program to help fund its Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.State Sen. Gene Yaw, R-23, announced Tuesday that the awards were considered at the authority's board meeting.“Today’s awards will enhance public safety and ensure our region’s infrastructure meets the needs of residents for years to come,” Yaw said. “I was pleased to advocate for this funding and work with my colleagues in the General Assembly and our local officials to help make these projects a reality.”Funding for the township will be used to install sidewalks, lighting and streetscaping, improving pedestrian access to downtown Lewisburg, the park, community pool and to the elementary and middle schools.Funding for the borough will be used for the replacement of 800 linear feet of sanitary sewer, manholes and lateral connections.“The Borough of Mifflinburg appreciates the support that Sen. Yaw’s office has provided for the Borough’s CFA application,” Borough Manager Margaret Metzger said.“These funds will help the borough complete some vital improvements to the borough’s sewer collection system, improving service to customers.”
