April 8, 2026, marks 200 years since the chartering of the Danville & Pottsville (D&P) Railroad, a pioneering rail line whose western terminus was Sunbury. Originally intended to run from the ferry house on the south side of the Susquehanna River opposite Danville to the Schuylkill Canal at Pottsville, it was later recognized that Sunbury, at the confluence of both branches of the Susquehanna, was the preferred western terminus of the line.
