LEWISBURG — Robert Hughes will be the featured artist at Gallery 255 in Lewisburg during August.Hughes’ collection showcases oil paintings inspired by the beauty of nature, historical architecture and scenes from his travels throughout England, Scotland and Italy. Gallery 255 is located in the lobby of the Public Libary for Union County, 255 Reitz Blvd., Lewisburg. Working primarily in oils, Hughes often begins his paintings with en plein air sketches created on location before using them as references for larger, more detailed works. His appreciation for landscapes and historic places is reflected throughout his artwork, capturing the character and atmosphere of each setting.Hughes is a longtime member of the Art Association of Harrisburg and the Harrisburg-area group the Seven Lively Artists. His work has been featured in regional exhibitions, including Stroll Through the Arts in Lewisburg, the Susquehanna Art Society Annual Show in Sunbury, and exhibitions with the Seven Lively Artists at the Governor’s Mansion, the State Museum, and the Art Association of Harrisburg.Visitors are invited to view Hughes’ exhibit in Gallery 255 during regular library hours.
