Spreading love all across NEPA

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU)— This Valentine's day love was all around NEPA.

For some, it was about spending time with their loved ones enjoying a special meal, while others got creative and delivered a heartfelt gift to strangers. The admiration and appreciation go a long way this holiday.

Drinks were served and toasts were made inside River Grille in Wilkes-Barre to celebrate a day full of love.

Covered in red, pink and sparkly décor, the 'xo pop up bar' was the spot to be for lovers and families on cupid's holiday.

"We're usually home with the kids and we decided today is our day and we are going to spend it together and what better way to celebrate love," said Cat Davis of Dallas.

Valentine's Day themed food and drinks provided an intimate and party like experience for those of all ages. There were also several spots that made for picture-perfect memories.

Spreading kindness, hope on Valentine’s Day

"I love decorating and I love throwing themed parties so I just feel this incorporated my things that I like to do and plan into my everyday job," exclaimed Kristina Mustapich, manager of River Grille.

"Valentine's Day is an important day because you spend time with your family and it brings love and joy," stated Ben James of Mocanaqua.

But Valentine's Day in NEPA went beyond fancy cocktails and gourmet bites.

Local organization freedom fighters gave out Valentine's to strangers in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

"Little Valentine's they are just candy bags and we have cards that are hand written by our community members with a message of inspiration, encouragement and hope," explained Sharee Clark, co-founder of Freedom Fighters.

At bloom by Melanie's Flower Shop in East Stroudsburg, precisely crafted bouquets were arranged for that special someone.

"It gives people comfort if necessary, or happiness if that's you know the situation, so I love that fact that we're able to provide that for people," said Melanie Frassinelli, owner of Bloom by Melanie.

The act of love and kindness was felt by many on this valentines' day, but one couple tells us they experience the Valentine's Day spirit 365 days a year.

"Valentine's Day is every day for us. It's my favorite holiday in this dark crazy world of ours," gleamed Tyeen Thomas of Plymouth.

River Grille will be looking to hold more pop up bars like the 'xo' one during holidays in the future.
