Pro-Palestinian protestors removed from democracy forum

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pro-Palestinian protestors were removed from a Freedom to Vote forum after they interrupted Pennsylvania Congressman Matt Cartwright's speech in Wilkes-Barre.

"Not another nickel, not another dime. No more money for Israel's crimes." That was the message pro-Palestinian protestors chanted as they were escorted from Action Together NEPA's freedom to vote forum.

The Freedom to Vote forum was hosted by Action Together NEPA and held at Wilkes University on Monday evening, focusing on the Freedom to Vote Act and the importance of voting.

Pennsylvania officials including Congressman Matt Cartwright, Pennsylvania Representative Eddie Day Pashinski, Luzerne County Councilman Jimmy Sabatino, and Action Together NEPA Executive Director Alisha Hoffman-Mirilovich, among others were in attendance.

Cartwright's speech, which was meant to highlight the importance of the American citizen's right to vote, was cut off by a group of pro-Palestinian protestors calling on Congress to cut financial aid to Israel.

The group walked into the forum, made their statement, and walked out of the forum with security on standby.

Prior to the group's demonstration, another man spoke up against the United States' involvement in both the Israel-Palestine conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war before he too was escorted from the building.

Once the protestors left the forum, Congressman Cartwright continued his speech.
