Lawmakers react to PA Election Security Task Force

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Governor Josh Shapiro has established a Pennsylvania Election Threats Task Force. He says it's all about identifying and mitigating threats to the election process ahead of the presidential contest just eight months away.

It's an effort to combat election misinformation, cases of voter intimidation, and other threats to the electoral process.

The force will be led by Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt, the state's top election official.

It's comprised of officials from at least 10 government agencies, from election administration and law enforcement to homeland security and emergency management.

Their actions include coordinating plans and sharing information among a variety of offices whose jurisdictions include elements of election safety.

By taking these steps, Shapiro hopes to protect voters and election workers and make sure they get accurate information about their elections. We reached out to both Republican and Democrat lawmakers for their reactions.

There have been many questions regarding the fidelity of our elections, whether real or perceived, and it is incumbent upon us, to ensure that our elections are safe and secure.

"I'm not hearing too much in my area about voter intimidation or voter disenfranchisement, I'm hearing more in my area about people being less than confident about elections," State Representative Mike Cabell of the 117th district explained.

Our battleground state is expected to be pivotal in the Fall Presidential Election.
