Man charged with homicide in Northumberland County

WEST CHILLISQUAQUE TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One man is being charged with homicide after an alleged stabbing in Northumberland County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), on Friday, February 23, troopers received a call from Northumberland County 911 regarding a 28-year-old stabbing victim.

Troopers say the victim, identified as Kyle Christensen had been stabbed multiple times in the torso.

PSP says they identified the man who stabbed Christensen as 22-year-old Preston Bennett.

According to state police, Bennett and Christensen disliked one another over a woman.

Police say Bennett told the woman he wanted to "gut" Christensen over these issues, and in response, Christensen wanted to physically fight Bennett.

PSP says on Friday around 5:30 p.m. Christensen and Bennett met in Spruce Alley in West Chillisquaqe Township and had a verbal altercation which quickly turned physical.

According to troopers, the incident turned physical when Bennett stabbed Christensen three times in the abdomen with a knife.

PSP said after the stabbing Bennett walked up to the woman and said "You made me stab him three times."

Christensen was transported to an area hospital where he was then flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

According to the Montour County Coroner's Office, Christensen died the following morning, Saturday, February 24, at 5:35 a.m. at Geisinger and an autopsy will be scheduled.

Court Documents state on Monday, February 26, Bennett was arrested and arraigned where he was denied bail and remanded to the Northumberland County Jail.

Bennett is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and possession of an instrument of crime with intent to use it.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, at 9:30 a.m.
