Scranton announces opening of grants through ARPA fund

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Thursday, the city of Scranton announced another opening of grants through the ARPA fund.

A total of $500,000 will be available to local artists and art organizations, each one receiving up to $45,000.

Through economic reports and data, local art communities such as music groups, independent writers, and theater and dance companies are still facing economic and employment impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, and this new grant through ARPA is aimed at helping them rebuild.

What exactly is “Leap Year?”

"This will hopefully help them recover and continue to make great art and continue to have such a great arts theater, culture, music culture. Here in Scranton, we want them to thrive, they are part of our community. They're also a part of how we get our youth to engage with the community, arts is a really important part of that so we're excited to announce the grants today," said Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.

To see if you or your organization qualify for the ARPA grant, Scranton will host an informational webinar on March 7 at 2:00 p.m.
