Investigators rule deadly Northumberland County fire accidental

POINT TOWNSHIP, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Investigators say they have determined the cause of a fire that killed two people and hospitalized another in Northumberland County.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, the early Monday morning fire was caused by discarded smoking materials.

Day two of coroner’s inquest underway for 1970 cold case

State police said the discarded smoking materials ignited the light combustibles in the surrounding area leading to a larger fire.

The fire was ruled accidental by a state police fire marshal.
