Passover celebrated in Luzerne County

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Luzerne County, dozens gathered to observe the beginning of Passover with the Seder Dinner, a Jewish ritual celebrated during the first two nights of Passover.

On Monday, the JCC in Kingston held the dinner along with the annual reading of the biblical story of the exodus, when the Israelites fled from slavery in Egypt.

Passover is a major Jewish holiday meant to symbolize freedom, celebrated over the course of a week.

"It's the first night of Passover. It's celebrating around the world. It's important that we teach our children and the community about the holiday and about everything that's going on there's multi-generations in the room with all different traditions and we're together as one in prayer," said JCC Adult Cultural Director Barbara Sugarman.

Passover ends on Tuesday, April 30 at sundown.
