Woman allegedly taunts police K9 while being arrested

NEWPORT TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman being arrested for a domestic disturbance is now facing charges for taunting a police K9, officers stated.

On April 19 around 10:00 p.m. in Newport Township, police were called for a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of Old Newport Street.

According to the Newport Township Police, a man told officers that 48-year-old Ivy Meres was refusing to give the man his belongings unless he provided her with a marijuana vape pen.

Meres allegedly threw clothes at the man, grabbed him by his arm, and pushed him up against a wall. Police say they tried to arrest Meres but she resisted and dropped to the floor.

Eventually, Meres was placed in the back of a police cruiser with a K9 unit. As stated in the affidavit, Meres began taunting the K9 unit and rocked the cruiser back and forth causing the dog to push through a safety divider.

Meres was charged with simple assault, harassment, taunting police a animal, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. She was released on $1,000 bail.
