Carpentry and cabinetmaking for a cause

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Lackawanna County, Johnson College's Carpentry and Cabinetmaking Technology Program hosted an auction to benefit the children's advocacy center of NEPA.

More than 70 items were available to bid on, including cutting boards, benches, and custom woodwork.

All the items up for grabs were created by students in the carpentry & cabinetmaking technology program.

Many products were even made from re-purposed material.

Last year, the annual event raised close to $6,000.

"When they see a piece that they made get purchased their confidence just goes through the roof and they get back here in the next couple of days and all they want to do is build more stuff, it's a lot of fun to watch," Carpentry and Cabinetmaking Program Director Todd Campbell

A spokesperson from the college says the event raised over $10,000.

However, officials say they hope to beat last year's total.
