Ritz Theater reopens after renovations

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A historic theater in Lackawanna County re-opened Saturday after undergoing renovations.

Now, refurbished and revamped the Ritz Theater in downtown Scranton seats 500 people inside.

It also features a downstairs bar, tattoo parlor, and hair salon.

The first Wednesday of every month except for July will be $1 movie night.

The owners say it's not the first time they have attempted to re-open the theater, but this time it was actually a success.

The renovations are meant to reflect its former glory with a modern twist.

"This is actually the only operating theater of Sylvester Poli to date which is quite amazing so we wanted to honor his legacy and bring that forward when we bought this building it was white everything was white there was no personality. So we wanted to do it right and how Sylvester Poli would've done it," explained Josh Balz the co-owner of the Ritz Theater.

The theater could be used for much more than just movies. It can be converted into a stage for bands, stand-up comics, and other performances.
