New park benches unveiled in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — New park benches will be on display in the Diamond City thanks to the Wilkes-Barre Area School District's Creative and Performing Arts Academy (CAPAA.)

Students designed and painted the park benches and garbage covers to help with the beautification of the city hall's grounds in Wilkes-Barre.

The mayor of the city was on hand for the event, along with several other local lawmakers.

Several students used their creativity to create benches with designs ranging from bees and rainbows to even Mr. Peanut.

"Well, I'm hoping that it shows us and gives us more stuff to do in CAPAA and gives us more kids who want to do more art," said Wilkes-Barre Area High School 11th Grader Evie Yanaitis.

"This is a beautiful area now, and it was kinda nasty looking before, with the exposed cans and the old benches, it's just an amazing do-over," said Wilkes-Barre Mayor George Brown.
