TROUT RUN, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The flood cleanup communities face following Friday's floodwaters from remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
One of the hardest hit areas is in Lycoming County.
The Trout Run community came together today to clean up the mess the storm left behind with the help of neighboring towns. The first order of business is clearing out the debris.
"I come home to this and it's just but thank god we're alive," voiced Sandra Winters, a resident of Trout Run.
The Trout Run community is left to pick up the pieces following Friday's fierce flash flooding. They are also left with no running water or power.
"Our little stream here trout run actually backed up a few bridges up, and it ended up overflowing to the whole town, which we've never seen before," explained Chief Dan Hollingsworth of Trout Run Volunteer Fire Company.
Road closures still in effect for North and Central Pennsylvania
"What actually happened here in this particular situation is it started undermining underneath our fire station which broke the one wall out and our whole kitchen went down in. The bridge started to undermine and now we're left with no bridge," said Hollingsworth.
The firehouse was being used to shelter people who were evacuated from their homes before part of it came down. Those evacuees were relocated to Hepburn Township.
Sandra Winters was one of those people who says when she saw her home she knew she could not stay there.
"I ain't staying here. That's my thought in my mind. I wasn't gonna stay there 'cause I'd be afraid to go to sleep and wake up and my house would be gone, you know," worried Winters, of Trout Run.
State Representative Joe Hamm (R) says he is not surprised the community is pulling together in the face of disaster.
"Everyone coming together that's that's what Lycoming County is about that's what this Trout Run region, this, this area is all about it's coming together, working together for the people," commented Hamm (R).
The Hepburn Township Volunteer Fire Company will be serving hot dinners to flood victims on Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Trout Run Volunteer Fire Company is also taking donations to put toward repairs.
