Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Luzerne County

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued in Luzerne County Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday evening shortly after 6:00 p.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) announced a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Central Luzerne County in NEPA until 6:45 p.m.

The warning was issued after a thunderstorm was spotted by radar near Muhlenberg, or nine miles west of Wilkes-Barre, moving at 25 miles per hour, according to the NWS.

Weather Alerts

Authorities say winds can reach up to 60 miles per hour with hail the size of a quarter and anticipate there will be hail and wind damage to vehicles, siding, roofs, and trees.

The NWS anticipates the following areas could be impacted by the intense weather.

Wilkes-Barre

Muhlenberg

Kingston

Nanticoke

Plains

Pittston

Plymouth

Exeter

Swoyersville

West Pittston

If you are in the areas anticipated to be impacted by the severe thunderstorms, the NWS says to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
