Driver dies after crashing into basement of home

W. CHILLISQUAQUE TWP., NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police say a man was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a home, ending up in the basement of the house in Northumberland County.

On Wednesday around 7:00 p.m., troopers were called to a report of a vehicle crashing into a house in the 4000 block of State Route 405 in West Chillisquaque Township.

Police stated the driver, Cornelius McMullen, 49, of Lewisburg, lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the roadway. It then traveled about 100 feet until it crashed into the side of a house and ended in the basement.

The crash caused the house to catch fire, troopers did not say how badly the fire damaged the home.

As a result of the crash, McMullen was pronounced dead on the scene.

Also in the car was a child who was taken to Geisinger Danville for minor injuries. The homeowner was present at the time of the crash but he was not injured.

State Route 405 was shut down in both directions as crews investigated the scene.
