VA uses creative arts as treatment in competition

PLAINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The VA held the 16th Annual Veterans Creative Arts Competition Thursday showcasing local talented veterans.

The VA uses creative arts as a therapeutic rehabilitative treatment.

The competition recognizes the progress and recovery veterans have made through creative arts therapy.

It also raises awareness of the creative achievements of our nation's veterans.

"We have a couple different categories, music, we have drama, we have our creative arts here so all of our artwork then we have creative writing," Recreation Therapist Kristie Kendrick explained.

"I performed a lot of places and it's a lot of fun. I just consider it a hobby you know and I enjoy it quite a bit. I hope the other folks enjoy hearing me," said Veteran Wally Sasso.

This was their first live event since the pandemic and they are already taking submissions for next year's competition.
