Man charged in stabbing under Pierce Street Bridge

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police have charged a man after they say he was involved in a stabbing under the Pierce Street Bridge in Kingston.

According to the Kingston Police Department, officers were called to an area below the Pierce Street Bridge for a reported stabbing on August 30 around 11:00 p.m.

Police say once on the scene, a man identified as Ryan McCawley Mathis, 22, of Plains Township, voluntarily stated that he "did stab someone."

Officers said they found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds all over his body including his back, arm, wrist, and thigh.

Investigators seized a kitchen knife that was found at the scene and the victim was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Mathis was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, prohibited offensive weapons, and reckless endangerment. Mathis remains in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without bail.
