Addressing PA transportation funding, spending in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania lawmakers are giving constituents a voice in state transportation investments.

A house transportation committee met Wednesday at the Luzerne County Transportation Authority Headquarters in Wilkes-Barre.

The committee took written testimony concerning a proposed funding increase for state transportation, roads, and bridges.

$280,000,000 in funding was originally requested, but the bill fell short in the state Senate after passing the House.

It leaves the state with a fraction of that, just $80,000,000 for those infrastructure needs.

"If the funding that Governor Shapiro has proposed comes through, we can maintain our service levels for several years, definitely, and we can also enhance our current routes," said Executive Director of LCT Bob Fiume.

A legislative proposal to increase funding for Pennsylvania transportation, road, and bridge needs has not been enacted since 2013.
