Strike looming at Crestwood School District

LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A potential for a labor strike is looming over the Crestwood School District. That strike could happen as early as next week.

More than 100 support staff employees were at the meeting Thursday night held inside Crestwood Secondary Campus in Wright Township.

Dozens of cafeteria workers, secretaries, and custodians are looking for a new contract with decent liveable wages.

The last contract ended in July with negotiations for new ones in the works since January. There was a tentative agreement when the last one ended but nothing was put into motion.

"The things that we're really looking for are just a decent wage increase. Nothing extraordinary, just the ability to bring everybody up to a decent living wage. We just want a decent raise the last contract. Our last year we had a half of a percent increase, and our wages are quite low," explained Tracy Cormier, Vice President of the PSEA Support Staff Union.

If no agreement is reached by Monday, the support staff at Crestwood School District will strike at 7:00 a.m. on Route 309 in Luzerne County.
