PD: Man steals tip jar and attempts to assault employees

HAZLETON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Luzerne County man was arrested for allegedly attempting to assault two employees and stealing the tip jar of a Hazleton restaurant.

According to an affidavit from police, Maurice Gillespie, 32, was visibly intoxicated and resisted arrest at New York Fried Chicken in Hazleton.

Police say Gillespie attempted to swing at two employees, including the owner of the establishment, before grabbing the tip jar off the counter and exiting the business.

The tip jar, including the $22.56 in the jar, was returned and Gillespie was transported to the Hazleton Police Headquarters.
