WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An army-mandated reorganization means the beginning of the end for the Pennsylvania National Guard 109th Field Artillery.
The unit which dates back to the Revolutionary War Era in the 1700s will become a casualty through the process.

The 109th and the 2803rd forward support company are both based at the Kingston Armory.
They will be inactivated next August 31.
A new unit, the 28th Division artillery, will be activated the following day.
The move is intended to make the new unit capable of conducting complex, large-scale combat operations.
