Runners, walkers gathered at Geisinger Marworth Recovery Fun Run

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — On Sunday morning, runners and walkers gathered for an annual Fun Run.

The event includes a 5K run and a one-mile walk at the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.

Participants also enjoyed around 40 basket raffles and light refreshments, courtesy of Weis Markets.

Honoring those lost, preventing suicide in Greater Northeast PA Out of the Darkness Walk

The event supports funding for the Geisinger Marworth Therapeutic Activities Program which helps individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction connect with community services after rehab.

"Everybody knows somebody who is addicted or is addicted to something themselves. so this is a great way to come out and support those people that we never talk about," said Mehoopany resident Michael Wojnarski.

Medals were awarded to top finishers in both male and female age categories.
