Hundreds came out in Scranton for Steps Toward a Cure 5K

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It was quite a day for a run or walk on Sunday and a couple hundred did just that in Scranton for a good cause.

They took part in a first-time fundraiser called Steps Toward a Cure 5K Walk/Run at McDade Park.

The event raised money and awareness for Dravet Syndrome research.

Dravet Syndrome is a rare form of epilepsy known for prolonged seizures and often being resistant to treatment.

The Hill family knows all about that. Their five-year-old son, Cael, was diagnosed with the disorder when he was just eight months old.

"I think just bringing attention to Dravet Syndrome so that people understand just what these Dravet warriors go through on a daily basis is very important to us," said Cael's Mother and Event Organizer, Reagan Hill.

The Hill family was one of four families affected by Dravet Syndrome, who were on hand for this inaugural fundraiser in the Electric City.
